About Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is a skin resurfacing procedure that the medical professional team at Pacific Skin in Marin & San Francisco, use to give the skin a smoother appearance. Because continuous exposure of the top layer of skin to UV rays, environmental toxins, and irritants means that it may begin to appear dull, dermaplaning aims to refresh the skin by removing the top layer.
Using a scalpel-type blade to remove skin cells, hair, and other debris that may be present on the surface of the skin, dermaplaning can help with acne scars, dry skin, sun-damaged skin, and small wrinkles. Once the top layer of skin is removed the newer skin cells are exposed to make your skin appear smoother and glowing!

Dermaplaning Procedure
Dermaplaning is a safe procedure that requires very little preparation. Prior to the procedure, we will use a gentle cleanser with alpha or beta hydroxy acids to help loosen dead skin cells. Once the face is completely dry, we will use a sterilized 10-gauge scalpel to begin the removal process. The actual removal process entails slightly pulling the skin tawt and using the blade to make short motions against the grain of the hair on the skin. The process usually takes about 45 minutes to complete. Following the procedure, we will apply a moisturizer to the skin before providing a post-procedure care guide. There is no downtime needed post dermaplaning appointment. No need to take time off work, oftentimes we can schedule the session during a lunch break!
